About Us

Welcome to B&B Porta Verde

B&B Porta Verde is our home in the small hilltop village of Castelbottaccio, in the heart of rural Molise.

We created Porta Verde to offer something a little different from a conventional hotel stay: comfortable, individual rooms, a relaxed atmosphere and the personal welcome that comes from staying in a small, family-run B&B.

For us, one of the pleasures of living here is sharing this largely undiscovered corner of Italy with other people. Molise has beautiful countryside, historic villages, excellent food and wine, mountains and the Adriatic coast — but without the crowds found in many of Italy’s better-known destinations.

Porta Verde gives our guests a comfortable base from which to discover it.

Our Story

Castelbottaccio isn’t simply where we run our B&B. It’s our home.

What attracted us to this part of Italy was the slower rhythm of village life, the landscape of the Biferno Valley and the sense of community that still exists in small Molisan villages.

Over time, Porta Verde developed into the B&B it is today: four individually furnished guest rooms within a traditional village property, combining the character of the building with the comforts we would expect when travelling ourselves.

We want our guests to feel comfortable rather than formal, looked after rather than managed, and free to experience Molise at their own pace.

Some arrive knowing exactly what they want to see. Others arrive knowing almost nothing about Molise. We’re equally happy with both.

We live here, so we’re always available to suggest places to visit, restaurants to try, villages worth exploring or simply a beautiful route for a day’s drive.

Meet Your Hosts

Nicola, your host at B&B Porta Verde

Nicola

Nicola believes that the small details make a big difference to how somewhere feels.

Her background has included working at executive level as well as many years in healthcare, and throughout her career she has worked closely with people. At Porta Verde, that translates into something much simpler: making sure guests feel welcome, comfortable and able to relax from the moment they arrive.

She has a particular interest in wellbeing and is qualified in both yoga and Reiki, but above all she enjoys creating a calm, friendly environment where people can switch off and enjoy their time in Molise.

Paul, your host at B&B Porta Verde

Paul

Paul’s professional background is in logistics and supply-chain management, including many years working within the English judicial system.

Away from work, Italy — and particularly Molise — became an increasingly important part of his life before Castelbottaccio eventually became home.

Paul enjoys helping guests discover the region, whether that’s suggesting a restaurant, explaining the best way to reach one of Molise’s historic villages or recommending places that visitors are unlikely to find in a conventional guidebook.

Together, we try to provide the sort of hospitality we appreciate when we travel ourselves: friendly and attentive, but never intrusive.

A Different Kind of Italian Escape

We don’t pretend Porta Verde is a large luxury hotel — nor would we want it to be.

There are just four guest rooms, which means we can keep things personal. Breakfast is included, the rooms are individually furnished, and we’re here if you need advice or assistance.

At the same time, you’re free to come and go and experience Molise in your own way.

What we hope you’ll remember isn’t simply the room you stayed in. It’s breakfast before setting off for the day, a restaurant you might never otherwise have discovered, the view across the valley, an evening in the village, a trip to the Adriatic, and perhaps the feeling that you’ve found a part of Italy you didn’t know still existed.

What Matters to Us

A personal welcome

Porta Verde is our home as well as our B&B. We want every guest to feel genuinely welcome.

Comfort and attention to detail

Clean, comfortable rooms and thoughtful details matter to us. We look after Porta Verde ourselves and take pride in maintaining it.

Sharing local knowledge

Molise rewards curiosity. We’re happy to help you discover restaurants, villages, countryside, historic sites and experiences beyond the usual tourist routes.

Time to slow down

There doesn’t need to be an itinerary for every day. Sometimes the pleasure of Molise is simply having the time and space to enjoy where you are.

Come and Discover Our Molise
